A fickle thing, emotion is. It makes you feel like crap when disappointment sets in, it makes you feel giddy as a schoolgirl on Red Bull when you fall in love, and it makes you angry on various occasions, such as when your team loses in the Super Bowl (I suppose in that event though, the alcohol doesn't help the situation much). But the key word is "feel". Feeling emotion is a branch of instinct, something that by definition is irrational and requires little to no thinking. Morals are also fueled largely by emotion, making many so-called "morals" just as irrational, if not more so because it's an attempt at logic based on illogical behavior. Irrationality has no place in major decisions. For example, let's use… the government! They're fun to use as an example, because they happen to provide the most numerous numbers of examples in asshattery. Many people voted for Bush in both terms because he has "good morals". Now, the last time I checked, leading a nation of diverse cultures required a little more than morals. I don’t give a shit about morals – I want to know that the Hell he can do for the country! Morals are second place in comparison to leadership capabilities and the ability to make a justified, wise decision. Unfortunately, I have seen little to no wise, justified decisions coming from my government in the past five years.
But I digress. As I said before, emotions cannot be used in decisions that affect many people. Between two people, or a small, close-knit group, sure – let emotions run wild. But you cannot, logically, use a decision that was forged on emotion (and thus irrationality) to solve to a problem that affects hundreds or millions of people. Emotion is best left as a personal trait, and personal things do not belong in public. Take THAT one how you will.
